How sync works, and your privacy

NO SERVER

Every member keeps a copy. Nobody has to be online for others to see their data.

What happens, and when

  • At login: one small message to the guild. Guildmates answer privately, and your add-on fetches only what it lacks from the best-informed one, preferring each character's owner.
  • While you play: your changes go out about 10 seconds later as small item-level updates.
  • Every 10 minutes: a quiet comparison with one random guildmate repairs anything missed.
  • Within the game's limits: messages stay under 255 bytes, the guild channel gets a few per second at most, and sync pauses in combat (except PvP alerts).

Trust

Data sent by its owner always wins. Copies relayed by someone else only fill gaps and are marked "(relayed)". If anyone relays wrong data about you, your add-on republishes the truth. Malformed messages are dropped.

You choose what you share

Settings > Sharing & privacy: pick each part (bags, bank, mail, professions and so on), keep gold private (it is by default), give a character the minimal profile, opt a character out completely, or hide single items. Item names you learn are kept on your computer only.

Help and troubleshooting

My bank or mail doesn't show up for the guild

Open your bank and a mailbox once on that character. The game only lets add-ons read them while they're open. The Getting started card ticks them off when it worked.

A guildmate's items are missing or old

Their data arrives when they, or anyone who has a copy, is online. Press Sync now (or Shift-click the minimap button). The Guild tab shows each member's add-on version and how fresh their bags and bank data are.

Everything is empty after I log in again

The Forever beta currently writes add-on data at logout but doesn't read it at login, which affects every add-on. Until Blizzard fixes it, guild data is re-learned from guildmates within a minute or two, and your item finder knows what you've opened this session.

KOS my target says "on your side"

Kill on sight is for players who can attack you. Your own faction can't be added, except in free-for-all areas like arenas. To add anyone by name: /wc kos Name reason.

Someone can't use Warchest

Their rank may be excluded. Guild tab > Who has access shows the current rule. The guild leader changes it in Access & ranks; including a rank later resumes sync on its own.

I want the old Blizzard look

Settings > Notifications & look > Style: classic, then /reload. Opacity, dark or parchment tint and text size apply to both styles.

Too many notifications

Settings > Notifications & look picks the channel (chat, pop-up, banner, both or silent) and each reminder. PvP alerts have their own switches in Settings > PvP.

Reporting a problem

Run /wc diag (or Settings > Run diagnostics). It records how Forever formats names, bank tab IDs and which game functions exist, and saves the result into your SavedVariables file to share with the author.
